Just FYI

Posted by peahix on 27th April 2016

Hi all, I broke my wrist on my dominant hand a couple weeks ago, and am finding it very difficult to do most things with just my left hand, including computer stuff, packing and shipping, etc, so my apologies if I’m a bit slow in responding for the time being. Pea

Recently our good friend and associate Robert Becker restored and customized an Optigan 35012 for Rami Jaffee of Foo Fighters and Wallflowers fame. Robert works at Quilter Labs, and he arranged an unveiling and test drive for Rami at their office. Thanks to Rami for letting us film the occasion and post it here for [...]

Posted by peahix on 23rd November 2013

Our good friend Hirofumi Shimada at Stubbie Records in Japan has just released a new edition of The Joyous Sounds Of Christmas: Johnny Largo at the Optigan. The most notable difference between this new version and our original release is that they’ve overdubbed some cute little kids (the Nobuka Sisters) singing on top of the [...]

Optigan.com Updates & Improvements Underway

Posted by peahix on 13th December 2012

Hi all, I’m finally getting around to sifting through the site with a fine-toothed comb, updating/adding information and squashing bugs and/or dead links. This site was originally put together in the mid 1990s, and there are several aspects from those days that have stubbornly remained. If you notice anything that needs attention, feel free to [...]

New 2011 Optigan Disc – VIBRASCAPE

Posted by peahix on 28th November 2011

NOW SHIPPING! Like our popular PIANOSCAPE disc, VIBRASCAPE presents the sound of the vibraphone in a uniquely Optigan fashion. The keyboard tones are arranged as a series of rhythmic patterns that create hypnotic, pulsating soundscapes when chords are played. (This disc is not particularly suited to melodic playing). The chord buttons feature sustained bowed vibraphone [...]

Forum Issues

Posted by peahix on 14th November 2011

Hi all, the forums are currently plagued with spambots, despite all the spambot security features being enabled. We’re not sure where the security hole is, but for the moment we’re having to laboriously manually delete each spambot. Hopefully we’ll get this figured out soon, though we may have to switch to an entirely new forum. [...]

Black Deck – A homemade Optigan-like instrument

Posted by peahix on 14th September 2011

I was recently sent a link to The Black Deck, a home-brew optical disc instrument that works on the same principle as the Optigan, though the design and implementation are a bit different. It appears to mostly use graphically-generated waveforms, and also it only has 8 tracks per disc, as opposed to the 57 tracks [...]
